OK this comment can either belong in "Pet Hates" or "You Know ... Playing too Long."

It bothers me when I see "tanker" applied synonymously with "tank" as in, "Tanker LFG for mission."

Last I heard, a "tanker" is any vehicle on which a tank is mounted to transport large quantities of fluids.

One has to remember that the words change meanings/spellings etc over time through acceptance of command usage. For example, in the next 30 years, the words through will probably be officially changed in spelling to thru, because it is in common usage so much. Slang becomes common culture. Terms like w00t are actually being used as words now in RL, etc.

Think about how formal language evolved. Think about science reports or laws, they need a precise language to describe things clearly to a wide audience (people living in different locales). With slang, it becomes very localised and language will split apart in to so many dialects someone from a few towns away from you won't be able to understand you. We need a standard language. If anything we need a single global languge lke Esperanto to become popular rather than separating into more dialects. Dialects are OK so long as the people know how to read and write properly. Anyways forum rules say you can't abuse the English language so neener neener!

i hate when people phone the shop where i work, and will not speak.
i usually just pass the boss the phone...after a second or two, he is whittering away in the mothertongue.

i mean, come on, it cant be that difficult to say, 'can i speak to Asif, please?'
i know im only a mere femail and all, not worhty to even speak to, but hey, youre not going to get into trouble for it, im not your daughter/wife/sister/mother so say hi.

and i hate the crowd metality, the way some people will just do something because its what everyone else does....

answer is usualy, 'yeah'....

sheesh.....no wonder i gave up on humanity as a race..im rooting for the dolphins, always supposing we dont wipe them out, but if we do..then its cocroaches rule the world ^^
